Class of 1965 Reunion

On June 27-28, 2015, the Class of 1965 met to celebrate 50 years since graduating from Western Christian. We met in the park across from school for registration and pizza was served at noon. It was a joyous and loud gathering as classmates reconnected with each other.

The afternoon included the option of various tours including a ride on a Western school bus to the cheese factory. Some chose to stay in the park, visiting and greeting new arrivals. At 5:00 tours of the school were given for those who wanted. The tour guides reported that this was not an easy tour to lead because everyone had some memory to share. A class picture was taken, and we enjoyed punch and more social time before the catered meal. There was so much reminiscing and storytelling about high school days, especially the bus rides! But often the conversations shifted to our lives now and how God has been faithful all these years. We had 126 classmates, seven of which are deceased, seventy who attended the dinner with eight teachers; with spouses, 134 attendees total.

The climax of the reunion was a worship service held at the Dordt Student Center. Dave Smit led the service with Les Kuiper giving the message based on the motto we chose 50 years ago - A Changeless Purpose in a Changing World. A volunteer choir was directed by our own Miss Leinse (now Mrs. Gerry Kosters). The service ended with singing My Friends May You Grow in Grace, a very appropriate conclusion to a wonderful weekend. After enjoying a light lunch, we parted with the hope of seeing each other again in five years.
